The Jan Moir/Stephen Gately debate

As this seems to be all over Facebook and the press etc I just wondered what the average Delfan's take was on it all.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=151083562155&ref=nf

I wasn't a Boyzone fan but thought it was sad for him to die so young. Jan Moir's comments may reflect what lots of us might have thought about how the poor guy died and wondering about what happened that night.

Regarding the outcry, I don't think it's about making Stephen out to be a saintly, beyond reproach character but the tone of her article and some of her comments are offensive and mis-timed especially as the funeral hasn't even taken place.

Its what journo's do, when did they care how it effects the family? All they care about is getting papers sold and trying to be as controversial as possible.

I have more problem with The Daily Mail on the whole as paper, dreadful little rag run by utter tosspots.

As for Gateley himself, yeah its shame that he died so young but that happens all the time, nothing new there, he lived a charmed life and should be grateful that he lead the life he did considering the amount of musical talent that he had, its hardly the same as when Jimmy Hendrix died is it?

Saying that dying in chair bolted up right choking on your own vomit is not very rock and roll is it?

I mean if I was in the music business I would want to die choking on somebody else's vomit, now that is rock and roll!!

We talked about all this a lot at work and pretty much all agreed that Charlie Brooker's response in his column in The Guardian said most of it more eloquently than we did.

I read his column at the time and thought it was very good...he's very clever with words and structure and you feel his anger leaping out of the article.

2 of his books are going for £3 each at HMV and I went out and bought them in support on reading his article.  Wink  Barely contained rage and bile on every page.  Speaking of which, has anyone heard from Joe recently?

In the absence of evidence I'll have to take your word for it.

Ask whom?  I wasn't aware it was trademarked.
