i went to the show in new york and it was fantastic. joe's pub is a great little venue - a bit distracting at times since there are small tables surrounding the corner stage and waitresses going about with overpriced food and drinks throughout each concert, but it was still a great concert atmosphere. as a young american fan who completely missed out on ever seeing the dels during their peak years, i could not have been more excited to have the opportunity to see justin perform live.
the set list was:
-always the last to know
-not so sentimental now
-if i ever loved you
-whiskey remorse
-something in that mess
-what is love for?
-in the frame
-the way that it falls
-gold dust
-not where it's at
-tell her this
-driving with the brakes on
-no, surrender
-be my downfall
because he was booked at 7pm and there was another act starting at 9pm, he did have to rush through everything and not be too 'chatty.' probably the best part for me was being able to look around the room and see so many other people mouthing the words to his songs - i've never experienced that before. but, his voice was spot-on and he only forgot one lyric (the second line of the second verse to whiskey remorse - a guy sitting near me shouted it out and he continued the song from there
)
afterwards, i decided to wait outside the venue to see if he would emerge - it was below freezing and snowing lightly, but i stayed for about 45 minutes. i was the only one waiting! right as i was about to give up and go home, i saw him come out of some different doors further down the street, and before i knew what i was doing, i followed him and the group he was with to a local bar. i went in and mustered up the nerve to talk to him - for like 10 minutes! he was so nice! i had pilfered a promotional poster from the venue and i was hiding it in my sleeve so that it wouldn't get wet from the snow. i asked him to sign it and i eventually asked him to take a photo with me before deciding to stop crashing the party any longer and head home. it was.... a dream come true.
and, referencing an old thread about people who get obsessed over small details, despite the fact that i scored an autograph as well as a photo with justin, i am currently really bummed because i think i lost my ticket stub. i was looking forward to immortalizing it forever along with the other treasures i accumulated last night.... and i might have to check around ebay to see if there are any for sale. because that's just the kind of fan that i am.
