Del Amitri Covers

Hey fellow DA fans....

So, I play occasional gigs at bars and pubs and fests and such... I'm the only guy I ever hear covering DA songs... I can't be the only one in the world doing this....

What other cover versions have ya's heard?

So, nobody covers DA, or is it just that you don't KNOW of anyone who does?

Ahh... see, that is much clearer to me....

Nothing Ever Happens is one that I do.... As a 'Medley' of sorts, preceded by Stephen Fearing's "So Many Miles Away"

Jimmy Blue is another I cover.... And if I may say so myself, I get very good reviews for both

All cover versions suck large amounts of dead penguin dick, including yours. The only exception is Word Up by Gun.

And that's why every piece of message board software worth it's salt has an "Ignore" function.

Why ignore what is bad and can be destroyed?

Listen. Before an "artiste" inflicts a pointless cover version on the universe he/she should ask this question "Is it, hand on heart, better than the original?". If the answer, hand on heart,  is "no"THERE IS NO crappity smackING POINT IN DOING IT. Write something yourself.

And I take it your stage name is lifted from Monica Lewinsky's autobiography. Apparently it was how she referred to the President's organ.

I don't think a cover version needs to be better than the original for it to be worth doing. I do think though that it needs to be different than the original in some way. A familiar song sung in an unfamiliar way, with a different voice can be a very good and worthwhile thing. Even if the original is still better.

You're a bit grumpy tonight Rory, what's up?

"there's a thread there called "calling all musicians" or some such thing "

Thanks for the 411.... An interesting endeavour.  Would that I had better recording equipment at my disposal.... Or would that I knew better how to use the equipment that I have.

For such a good cause I'd love to submit my cover of "Jimmy Blue" or "Nothing Ever Happens"....

As some others in that thread have mentioned, my covers aren't bald-face copies of the originals either.
