Title: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by ChrissieA on 01/02/10 at 07:17:40
Following on from what I was saying on the tracklisting thread...

What else can we do online to help Justy out with promoting the album?

Tell all our online friends, use any promotional artwork from the record company on our profiles, spread the word on other message boards etc etc.

Suggestions please.  :)

Ha, ha, Chrissie,
I think we are all pretty excited with the news about the new songs posted here (really looking forward to hear the new album!!!) BUT... shouldn't we wait a bit, at least until we have some official news about the release date, etc? Oh, it's going to be a fun 2010, I think!!!!!
Cris
ps: sorry, I really don't mean to discourage you... and I completely agree with your suggestions... so let's just be a bit more patient!!  ;)

I help him!
He is on my website and I have posted promotion for him on two other sites.
I think I've "sold" about 100 cds for him. :)

Its going to be out in April so gives us plenty of time to work on something.

One thing I thought of was pestering chris evans to play something on his new breakfast show. Remember how he rescued texas's career and I know he loves Justin, he booked the Dels to play the TFI Friday christmas party one year.

:)
April's going to come around pretty fast once we're all back at work and busy with normal stuff so it's probably good to start discussing things we can do.

The radio show with Chris Evans/other radio stations is a great idea but we obviously need the official release dates/name of single (if there's going to be one) and promotional graphics etc from Ryko which hopefully Justy will have on his MySpace nearer the time.

By the way, welcome to the board Ready To Be and thanks for your ideas!!...but what can we call you?

My friends call me "Ready"....

Does Ginny still post on this board?

Hey there.....how you doin?

Not on here much but had spotted the bit of news on the new album....sounds good and hopefully some decent gigs to look forward to as not particularly thrilled by The Quigley/Currie Mix or indeed the longevity of his collaboration with Ms Bedford so looking forward to something better and if it's even a little like 'waking hours or change everything' then great!

Glad your well and thanks for the news, been dead on here.

Hope you're "Ready" for your pending Birthday celebrations  ;) Enjoy!

Count on me too! I can keep forwarding information to the Spanish Del Amitri website and also post news on the Spanish message board that has been practically inactive for the last few years...

The best thing to do for promotions, is probably to get the word out to less casual Del Amitri fans that may enjoy the stuff. The converted and dedicated will probably comprise most of the units sold, as he tends to cater to deep and meaningful listeners, meaning that expecting to attract alot of the current mainstream top 40 listeners that like lightweight and generic stuff will be a challenge--ones that aren't already familiar with his past works, that is.

Now that the major label promotions (though Ryko does the best they can with their budgets) have lessened, word of mouth has to do the rest. I know that a few messageboards that I post at, there's DA and Justin fans, and perhaps if they aren't absolutely following what he's up to, they'd pick up a copy if reminded or made aware of the release.--when it comes out, of course. Had I not checked in here, I would have no idea that there was even an album on the horizon, nor would I have known about the songs at Mark Freegard's site.....

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by susi on 01/04/10 at 02:49:22
I agree to this, except that I think you won't attract the mainstream top 40 listeners, at least the chances are slim - but it is possible to attract people that are listening to similar music by other artists. Actually that's what I'm trying to do all the time. :)
And I did not know about the two songs on Mark Freegard's site until I read it here.....

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by Cristina on 01/04/10 at 03:23:00
And talking about here... as it seems that most of the new information happens to appear here before anywhere else, let's see if there's any way to get more involved. I may contact Alison (I don't know if she's reading) to see her availability in terms of organizing a new section on the message board to have official news updated, etc... I really don't know if introducing news on the news section as it is now requires a bigger dedication in terms of time and if she's too busy to do so maybe any of us could hep her with it...

Cristina this is a good idea.
I could maybe post a link there since I have the news in a short way at my site :) but it includes other artists too so it is not a Del Amitri site.
but Justin is at the main news page.
where is your spanish site?
my site or page whatever you want
SOLLE'S SITE

Post by Cristina on 01/04/10 at 09:39:56
oh, no, Susi, it's not my site... We're mixing information... My latest post was refering to Alison's site, which is this one where we are writing now (Del Amitri.com), but the Spanish one I was refering to before is done and maintained by another guy I know (he still loves the Dels after all these years)... so he'll sure join us if we need to update info for the Spanish fans... that's all... I reckon he is skint and needs the money so this album has to do well or he will end up having to find a job.

Now what Job could you see him doing?
And no Chrissie, not that kind of job :)

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album

Music is his job, so I really do hope that the new record goes well. He really deserves it!  :)

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by Joseph the Eighth on 01/14/10 at 07:00:47
Its not about deserving, its about what will happen and he will be very very lucky if he sells 4 thousand records top wack.

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album

I really wish/hope/bet on a higher figure, for sure!!!!!!  ;)

Ok, more internet ideas to spread the word...
Youtube: leave comments on Justin/Del Amitri's videos we usually check on Youtube with news about the release, etc...

Cristina, this idea is good, but we have to wait till the CD is AVAILABLE.

I think You'll always walk alone is a "hit", what a beautiful song.
And I don't think he is skint. He will sell more than 4thousand records.

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album

You'll Always Walk Alone is cracker but the piano ballads always get me first  :-?

New Songs are Fab! 8-)

W.I.L.F sold just over 4 thousand records, why should this one do much better??

Justin loses money on just about everything he does.

Who told you that?

He did.

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by susi on 01/18/10 at 06:57:55
I would like to know too who told you that.???
and then the question is: how many records should he sell so that he don't lose money.? twice as much? ten thousand?

I think the songs on his new record are TOP and they kind of "stay inside the head" - or how can I say that?
if he is skint why are there no gigs? and why is no web shop with rarities or mp3s to find?
and do you know where you sell the most records? No?
I do.  In Australia and Germany!  :)

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by Joseph the Eighth on 01/18/10 at 08:10:40
I never said he was skint, I just said that he loses money on most of the things he does.

How many records did you think he would sell then? How many people out there have even heard of Justin Currie, not many I can tell you.

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by susi on 01/18/10 at 09:09:47
I reckon he is skint and needs the money so this album has to do well or he will end up having to find a job.

^  this is what you said. ^

I just hoped  that he sold more than 5000 records. but I have no idea about his record sales. Most independant artists are forced to do many gigs and they have their own record (web) shops.
?????

He's a curious character. Has a touring fanbase that's better than most indies could hope for and still can't shift copies of his album at gigs.

You'll always walk alone is one of the best things I think he has ever written and I have to say its one of the most saddest whilst beautiful songs I think I have ever heard.

This should be all over radio 2 - anybody got that gingers haired wankers email address???

"You'll always walk alone" is my favorite :) Maybe "Can't let go of her now" is a "hit" too. Both songs are really beautiful.
"Anywhere away from you" is not that catchy at all, it needs a few listens before it starts to "grow".
I love "In my heart....." and now the question is: why is it not on the album?

It would be nice if we could push this CD and help the old boy out a bit.

Also how about contacting DJ's on the links below and asking for a tune from the new album " The Great War"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/djs/

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/

http://www.capitalfm.com/on-air/

http://www.xfm.co.uk/onair

http://www.clyde1.com/default.asp

There is also a feature on face book where you can add a JC tune and if people like it it directs them to his page.

Maybe post details of his new CD and where to hear his songs on any other message boards that we go on etc.

Anybody got any other ideas on how to help promo this new record??

I think timing is important here to, maybe start all this 2 weeks before the release date don't you think?

I was just watching Richard Hawley on the Andrew Marr show. He had a bit of a chat with him, talking about how he's built up his fanbase by word of mouth and then he performed at the end of the programme.

This could be a great programme for Justin to go on as well - what do you think? If Justin did want to go on this programme his manager would probably have to arrange it - I'm not sure that a bunch of fans sending emails to the Andrew Marr show would work...although we could give it a go if you think it's appropriate?

Title: Re: Let's All Promote Justin's New Album
Post by hayley on 01/26/10 at 05:14:20
Del stuff still gets the occasional play on Radio 2 but it tends to be Ken Bruce and Jeremy Vine as far as I can tell - to be effective I'd guess that fan-nagging to shows would probably be better aimed at Simon Mayo's drivetime or Chris Evans breakfast... Marconie and Radcliffe maybe but I'm not sure that they'd go for it...

Suggestions for alternative careers for the man if this doesn't do well?

Not sure it will come to that unless NOBODY buys the record.

I think we should help out if we can and do a bit of promo on his behalf.

Anybody interested, please make contact for further details.

I'm not sure I can be arsed to actively promote anything but it certainly takes some of the work out of deciding what to buy folk for their birthday for the year ahead.

Ok, I know I'm quoting myself but just found info that Rufus is going to be Andrew's show. So why not Justin?!  :)

Repeating what I said before...do you think we should send requests to the show?

OK, Chrissie, go on with it and let's see if you get any reply... Some others can start requesting as well, count on me...
Rufus is having his opera shows in London in April so that may be the reason for having him in the programme. Justin could be on in May, with the release and the tour!!!

First official promo copy has found its way onto eBay.

Its there for the taking for anyone who can't wait for the official release.

Me personally, i'll pick up the promo when its a bit cheaper after the official CD release, there's always a big decrease on the promo prices then.
